Site Design & Accessibility

  1. This website does not use frames.
  2. The site is constructed with cascading style sheets (CSS) for layout control. Checks are undertaken regularly to ensure that the content of all pages is legible with browsing devices that do not support style sheets .
  3. Hyperlinks to 3rd party sites are set up such that linked pages do not open in a new window. This avoidance of "pop-ups" means that the integrity of the "back-button" is therefore maintained.
  4. This site uses structured markup language including H1 tags for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles, H3 for lower level headings etc.
  5. This site uses relative font sizes in order to allow user-specified text size selection where possible.

WAI Compliance

  1. All pages on this site are W3C approved, and comply with W3C guidelines. For further information about the Website Accessibility Initiative (WAI) please visit the W3C website.
  2. We endeavour to maintain WCAG approval, with emphasis on compliance to priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines. At the time of posting (May 2007) site compliance with priority 1 and 2 of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines was being finalised, and work on the priority 3 guidelines was well underway. Steelonthenet.com recognises - and site visitors should note - that WCAG approval is sometimes subjective because guidelines cannot be checked automatically.
  3. Pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional; and in the case of dynamic content as HTML 4.01 Transitional. Pages are checked regularly to ensure that this validity is maintained.
