Baltic Dry Index - BDI

The Baltic Dry Index (BDI or BALDRY - see chart above) is a figure calculated daily by the London Baltic Exchange. This figure gauges the cost of moving the major raw materials [including iron ore, coal and steel] around the world by sea. The Baltic Exchange's Dry Index itself is a weighted average of Supramax, Panamax, and Capesize dry bulk carrier rates for 26 different shipping routes worldwide.
