Slovenia steel production 2008


In 2008 the producers of iron and steel in Slovenia recovered more than 738,000 tons of scrap. More than three quarters of all scrap bought.

In 2008 the producers of iron, steel and ferroalloys in Slovenia had 801,063 tons of steel and cast iron scrap, of which over 616,000 tons (77%) were bought and more than 137,000 tons were produced within the works (own scrap). In addition, they had 47,485 tons of scrap in stock. Most of the scrap recovered. In total, almost 92% of all available scrap was recovered.

The majority of electricity used in electric melting shops and continuous casting. In the production of iron and steel over 580 GWh of electricity was used, of which 73% in electric melting shops and in continuing casting.

Over EUR 8 million to combat pollution. In 2008 investment expenditure in the iron and steel industry amounted to more than EUR 69.5 million - the largest share (more than 51%) was invested in other plants. More than EUR 8.5 million was invested to combat pollution.

Flat products predominate. In 2008 the maximum possible production capacity of crude steel was 750,000 tons. The capacity of hot rolling mills was 528,100 tons, of which the capacity to produce flat products represented 84% and the capacity to produce long products represented the rest.
