World coal production 2004 to 2008
The attachment shows annual world primary coal output (in 000s short tons) by country for each year between 2004 to 2008. Primary coal refers to anthracite, bituminous coal and lignite.
Total world production of primary coal over this period increased from 6.22 billion to 7.27 billion tons / year. The largest producers in 2008 included China (2.85 billion short tons), USA (1.85 bn tons), India (568 million tons) and Australia (439 million tons production).
