A cost curve is shown of MCI's steel bar ex-works production cost estimates for all major world steelmakers with bar mill capacity of over ~40 kt/year.
Approx 180 steel plants from around the world are included in the analysis.
The world's lowest cost bar producer is assessed as Puerto Ordaz in Venezuela [Sidor Group] with an ex-works bar production cost of ~$390/tonne.
At the other end of the scale lies the Osnabruck facility in Germany [Georgsmarienhutte works, estimated production cost of ~$1000/t], with the SeAH BeSteel facility at Kunsan, South Korea in second place [estimated cost of ~$940/t].
