World forgings production, 2009

Global forgings output in 2009 was 20.2 million metric tonnes, including 13.6 mt closed die forgings and 5.5 mt open die forgings.

The total output of 20.2 mt was accounted for by geographic production as follows: China 7.8mt, Europe 4.8 mt, India 1.8 mt, Japan 1.5mt.

Total employment in the sector in 2009 was ~368,000 employees globally across 2702 identified firms.
