An investment concept appraisal is a crucial step in the process of planning and evaluating a potential investment project. It helps investors, stakeholders, and decision-makers understand the viability, potential risks, and returns of a proposed investment.
Through our parent company Metals Consulting International (MCI), Steelonthenet.com is pleased to offer metal industry clients worldwide a fixed-price concept appraisal service.
As part of this service, our experts initially discuss your steel industry investment ideas with you, and then send you a written concept study proposal.
A team of metal sector experts (looking at market, technical and economic issues, icluding potential competition) then independently assesses your investment plan. This assessment is usually desk-based, but can involve a short site visit. Some 3-4 weeks after we start, our Consultants then send you a written 20-30 page written English-language concept appraisal report. This report comments on the project viability, risks and returns; and typically also includes recommendations (if appropriate) to improve the strategic / market / competitor / financial positioning of the investment.

Main Terms and Conditions
The fixed price offer covers professional fees and expenses for consultancy involvement of 2-3 metal sector experts for the duration of the assignment across a maximum elapsed time of 3-4 weeks. The fixed fees cover Consultant preparation time, travelling time, site visit, concept study write-up time and all direct expenses (including international travel and subsistence if appropriate). Fees specifically exclude client or 3rd party meetings taking place after submission of the written concept appraisal (e.g. with potential financiers). Such assistance if required is chargeable at an additional professional
fee (calculated on a man day basis) and must be agreed with MCI in advance.
Fees are due prior to project commencement, and must be transferred to the Consultants' account prior to Consultant engagement.
The 3-4 week elapsed project time and the 20-30 page report length mentioned above are indicative only. Actual project duration and report size may be more or less than this and will be confirmed at project outset. Finalised concept study reports will be delivered to the client in electronic form. Where necessary and at the Client's request, MCI and/or the Consultants can sign a standard letter of confidentiality prior to project commencement.
This service is provided at the discretion of MCI's management, who reserve the right to withdraw the concept appraisal service at any time because of potential conflicts of interest or for other professional or economic reasons.
A full schedule of MCI's general terms and conditions of engagement is issued with all written proposals.
Please note that our concept study appraisal service is a high-level (and lower-cost) version of our feasibility assessment service. For details of the latter service, see steel feasibility appraisal.
