Other information: The main business of HEG is graphite which accounts for 80% of the revenue. Set up in 1977, in technical and financial collaboration with Societe Des Electrodes Et Refractaires Savoie (SERS), a subsidiary of Pechiney of France, HEG is now the largest integrated graphite plant in the world. Spread over an area of ~170 acres, HEG (graphite division) has facilities for the production of Graphite Electrodes and Graphite Specialities. Its plant is located at Mandideep near Bhopal.

The plant has a annual capacity to make 80,000 MT of UHP grade electrodes. It has three captive power generation facilities which can together produce around 77 MW which fulfills almost the entire requirement of the graphite plant.

Recent news
  • 2007: Sold integrated steel business - including sponge iron and steel billets production and a 13MW waste heat recovery power system power plant - to Jai Balaji Industries Ltd of Kolkata.
  • 2005: Increased the production capacity of graphite electrodes at Mandideep from 30000 metric tonnes / year to 52000 tonnes per annum.
  • 2004: Wins international competitive bid for supply of graphite electrodes technology to National Iranian Steel Company (NISCO), the largest steel manufacturer in Iran.
  • 2002: Board approves the delisting of the shares of the company from the Delhi Stock Exchange, the Jaipur stock exchange, and the Calcutta and Bangalore stock exchanges.
  • 2000: Embarks on capacity expansion of graphite electrode plant at Mandideep from 22000 MT to 30000 MT.
