Other information: Founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata in 1868 and headquartered in India, the Tata Group is a global business conglomerate operating in over 100 countries across 5 continents. From an early foray into steel and automobiles, to staying abreast of the latest technologies, the Tata Group today has a strong presence across diverse industries such as agrochemicals, automotive, chemicals, construction, finance, consumer products, and hospitality.

Tata Steel was established in India as Asia's first integrated private steel company in 1907. With this, the firm also developed India's first industrial city at Jamshedpur. Today, Tata Steel is among the leading global steel companies. Annual crude steel capacity across Indian operations is nearly 13 mt. The company also set up its second greenfield steel plant in the eastern state of Odisha; commissioning the first phase (3 mt / year; from a planned total of 6 mt/year) in 2016. The company also owns and operates captive mines that help to maintain cost-competitiveness and production efficiencies through an uninterrupted supply of raw material.

Tata Steel is also the second largest steel producer in Europe with an annual crude steel production capacity of over 12 million tonnes. The firm established its presence in the European continent after acquiring Corus in 2007. The manufacturing facilities in Europe comprise hubs (Strip Products Mainland Europe; Strip Products UK; and Downstream Operations) and integrated businesses (Plating and Cogent Power). Tata Steel Europe has two integrated (blast furnace-based) steelmaking sites in Ijmuiden, the Netherlands and at Port Talbot, South Wales. Other facilities across Europe produce a variety of rolled products (such as rail) and coated steels.

Tata Steel's operations in South-East Asia began in 2004 with the acquisition of NatSteel, Singapore. The operations are run by NatSteel Holdings Pte Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Steel. In 2015, the company acquired a majority stake in Thailand-based steelmaker Millennium Steel, which strengthened the South-East Asian operations. The firm is concentrating its efforts in the region to grow our value-added products and services portfolio, while strengthening our key steel operations in Singapore, Thailand and China.

Main steel products produced by Tata Steel include blooms, billets, bars, rebar, wire rod, sections, wide-flange beams, plate, hot rolled sheet and coil, cold rolled uncoated sheet and coil, hot dip galvanised coil, tinplate [electrolytic: single- and double-reduced], wire, welded tube and pipe, large diameter pipe, plastic coated pipe, precision tube, hollow sections.
